Our Traveling Wilbury member Tom Petty will release a new album called
THE LAST DJ
October 8.

The album features Lindsey Buckingham, who lends background vocals on “The Man Who Loves Women,”

Here is a link to the official Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers website where you can find more details.

P.S. ever noticed that on the video of I Won't Back Down, Mike Campbell is playing on one of George's guitars. It is the The Stratocaster painted by George with psichodelic pictures. Was used by George during the photographic session of Free as a bird and during the Dark Horse Tour in 1974.

Thanks! Great news!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup2.gif Yes, I noticed the guitar~ great video! That song has that George "swooshy" beat to it. Perfect for his little George dance http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/wink3.gif . It's a nice solo, too, very George inspired, I think.

Was it not the one that Clapton gave him after "While my guitar gently weeps" ? In the Anthology series, there's a studio shot of guitar that looks just like it (circa 1968).

Love the IWBD video, Harri's guitar (yep, I had noticed it) + Ringo... beeing very "Ringo" ! Pity he did not actually play on the record...

But, must say that that remark about the guitar having been used for the Antology pictures was copied from that guitar site.

Will keep looking though.

You know the "Threetles" pics Linda took with George in the white outfit? Is that Ganesh on his shirt or Krishna, do you think? I haven't been able to see it from with right angle!! It seems it was one of George's favorite shirts...it's in other pics, too. Either way, I want one!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

They have Ganesh shirts at the Krishna.com store. Not exactly the same as George's but still really nice.

Although i cant really tell, i too have a strong "George" feeling it is Ganesha..funny because when i brought my Vishnu shirt, i did so instead of a Ganesha one, but i think it turned out to be a wise decision!! HC,the photo D on there is the one from life magazine ive told u about, with the close up of all 3 looking at the camera..that is my all time favourite George pic, and the one i think would look great drawn with Krishna!!

Now I know what you are getting for Christmas!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif Or at least by your birthday!! That is a wonderful, wonderful picture~ so spiritual and special, just his eyes....

LOL! The Ganesha shirt~ I looked for George's Ganesha shirt online for hours...I have around 1,000 more sites to check!! hahaha....slowly but surely....

I also want to check to see if George & I have the "same" Ganesh...I have a Ganesh shirt, I believe it is Bhakti Ganesh, but not 100% sure. Seated on a flower, He holds a sweet (modaka?), a goad, an axe (to distroy difficulties), and an OM painted on the fourth hand. George also had his Ganesh shirt on in the Rolling Stone tribute book, page 159. But it is from so far away! Hmmmmm.... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

I have heard some of the tracks of the album and I love it.

The Last DJ
The single, so already out for some time, but as I said, there is a bit of Run Of The Mill in the guitars, same as on Young Boy by Paul.

Dreamville
Lovely song with changing moods; piano, violins, sound a bit Beach Boys (Disney Girls), brass, acoustic. Very nice.

Joe
Heavy track like the old Tom Petty days.

When A Kid Goes Bad
Also some heavy riffs here.

Like A Diamond
One of the best on the album, guitar opening like Duane Eddy could have done. Good voice, semi-slow electric song.

Lost Children
I like it, Tom gets back to his roots by adding some heavy songs to an album. Heavy opening but a nice melodic Badge, good guitars, nice solo's. Heavy yes.

Blue Sunday
Another favourite track, a story again in the lyrics, Tom is good at that. Nice finger-picking guitar and good harmonies.

The Man Who Loves Woman
Harrison influence !!! The opening has a nice ukelele and also a 1930's sound. Lindsay Buckingham present at backing vocals, does also have a sort of late 60's Kinks influence, I can hear Ray Davies doing this one.

Have Love Will Travel
Very good. I keep thinking of others when hearing this album, because on this one there is so much Bob Dylan in the voice.

Can't Stop The Sun
Wonderful song. Beautiful guitars, tempo changes are well chosen. Quality track.
Part of the well known Harrison chords sequence like in the Song Badge, The End and many others.

Have not heard them all yet, but what I have heard sound just fine to me.

I finally got the CD! It is really good, though I typically have preferred the solo Petty CD's to the ones with the Heartbreakers. When I first heard the single, I thought thank God there will still be some worthwhile music on the radios for some time to come! Here are my feelings about the songs~

Last DJ~ Great, awesome

Money Becomes King~ typical cynical Petty, very good

Dreamville~ Neil Young influence I think, good

Joe~ not really my fave

When a Kid Goes Bad~ kinda sexy musically

Like a Diamond~ better than the previous two

Lost Children~ Getting great around here...sounds a bit Lenny Kravitz meets the Pretty Things http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Blue Sunday~ too Springstein-y for me

You and Me~ I love this one!!! This has that George swishy beat and is very Wilbury sounding to me.

The Man Who Loves Women~ This is just great! Yes, FPSHOT, very George!!! Wonderful Uke, georgeous guitar lead, great ending! My fave part is the very beginning with just the uke sound, before the piano comes in.

Have Love Will Travel~ Great! Kind of 60's/80's Dylan-y cross, very interesting lead guitar, great segue from previous track.

Can't Stop the Sun~ Great! Psycho-Kansas goes Pink Floyd! hahahaha No, very 60's psychedelic!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Hi, I'm new here, this is my first post. Couldn't resist:
I've only seen the video once but was Mike Campbell playing on George's guitar "Rocky"? the psychadelic guitar that George had.
Here's some pics of it (or at least a copy of it): http://www.virtualvintageguitars.com/fender0027_3.html

There used to be some info (or at least a picture of it) on George's allthingsmustpass.com site but, of course, its not there anymore.
