View Full Version : George re-releases...

ABCKO
Jun 13, 2001, 12:09 AM
I know George has had health problems these past few years and that this has delayed his new album. But what about those re-releases of all his albums he'd been talking about for a year or so ? It has been 4 months since the new "ATMP" and no news about any forthcoming re-releases.

When the Beatles' albums were first released on CD or when Paul re-released all of his albums it only took about a year or so (3 or 4 albums at a time) and George only has 10 albums or so...but at this rate...

Has there been ANY news about this (that I would have missed) ?

I am constantly chasing the various news pages, like Abbey Road which is always very much updated, but no news so far.

Hurry up, George! I can't wait too much longer!

------------------
This week, the Beatles greatest hits album, "1", is at number forty-nine on the USA album charts. "Wingspan: Hits and History" by Paul McCartney is at number fifteen.

Last words heard from George were about "Living In The Material World" and "The Concert For Bangladesh" being re-released and remastered this year. But, as FPSHOT stated, nothing cleared has come up yet... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

Patience, people... when we're sick, we can't even post on a forum, how on earth can we expect George to keep up with all of his deadlines with all he's been through?!?!

Anyway, I just got All Things Must Pass and I must say! It's awesome! If Not For You and What Is Life are my favorites so far. What're everyone else's favorites?

"Art Of Dying" is my all-time George favorite. "I'd Have You Anytime", "If Not For You", "My Sweet Lord" (the original one, that's it), "If Not For You", "Apple Scruffs", "Isn't It A Pity" (the first version), "Run Of The Mill", "The Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp"... Those are my favorites. And the re-release has a great track called "I Live For You"... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Agree 100%. There is better material left from the sessions which can be found on the various bootlegs. Like some Art Of Dying outtakes, like Just Ask, like some Apple Scruffs demos such as one where George complains how hard it is to play the mouthorgan because of 'all the hair'.

One of the problems of "All Things Must Pass" is the lack of information on the instrumentation... It's really hard to know who played what and when... But yes Ringo is one of the main contributors to the album. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Don't forget "The mighty Quinn" (or was that "Quinn the eskimo" ?). I don't remember who had a big hit with it way back when but much better than Bob's version...Heck, even "My back pages" from his 30th anniversary concert sounded better than the original...

Mind you, I just love his voice and intonations on "Dirty world", "Political world", "Series of dreams", "Tweeter and the monkey man" and "Things have changed" !

Mighty Quinn was one of Manfred Mann. Great 60's song and indeed much more than Bob's original;

Come one within
Come on without

Also one of my other 60's favorites, the Hollies did various Dylan songs, even on one album.

Last few years his voic became really bad. At the time of the wilburys is was still 'OK' compared to recent reordings and performances.

When he started in the sixties I must say that his voice was not so bad at all IMPO.

Well... Yes at the time of the Wilburys he had a good voice. Good enough to sing, that is. But I don't think I like his 60's voice either... I have the same problem as Forty... I can't understand some of his words on songs like "The Times They Are A-Changing" or "Like A Rolling Stone"... Plus "Lay Lady Lay" (I think that's from the 70's) sounds like completely sung by another artist...

I think I admire him as a composer, because most of his songs are just great.

A guy like Joe Cocker has also had these comments in his carreer.

------------------
You can worry your life away with
Not knowing what each new day may bring to you
Or take each day as it goes on
Wake up to the love that flows on, around you.

I love the way Joe sings With A Little Help From My Friends.
