This song was originally called Midnight Blue and as soon as George had it ready Melissa Manchester put out a song with that title, so he changed it.

Yeah, but remember the scene in Magical Mystery Tour, where George and John are sitting in a club watching a nice show. He didn't look depressed to me then.

This song, even being written long before the Extra Texture album, contributes lots of more environment to the other songs in that LP. Together with "Grey Cloudy Lies", "World Of Stone" and even "Can't Stop Thinking About You", they make it a very dark album. That's my two cents.
