Sorry if there was already a topic on this song, I didn't see one...
I just love this song! It one of the very few George solo songs that I have heard. Since a lot of you here know so much, http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif I would love to hear anything you know about this song. Any input would be appreciated. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Uh, it was a lot like the Chiffons' "He's So Fine".

It honestly does sound like that song. I bought it at a record fair just to make sure, and when listening to it you can hear the same basic chord structure as my Sweet Lord. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif

This week, 'Beatles 1' is at No. 42 in the UK Album charts.
This week, 'Wingspan' is at No. 13 in the UK Album charts.

This song was inspired by Oh Happy Day from the Edwin Hawkins Singers.
It shows what George did with the Badfinger guitars and the George O'Hara Smith singers, which went through the whole album.
When I first heared this song, at the day of release, I was so proud of George. There was so much airplay and so positively received. It was the day that his other life began.
An amazing song.

Just because two songs have similiar chord structure does not necessary mean that the second song ripped off the first one, IMO. Both songs are good, but "My Sweet Lord" is more like an anthem for its time. With all the chaos from the '60s and early 1970, I think his song was what we all needed to reassure us of what we can achieve.

I don't wish to comment on the technical side of the music. I don't feel qualified. But I have always thought that it is so superb in so many ways, so much greater than any chord structure, so much more going for it than - '3 notes'. (And that FPSHOT is on page 340 of 'I Me Mine'.)

The first time I heard "My Sweet Lord", I thought, oh, that sounds like another song I know. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thinker.gif And then it hit me: "He's So Fine"! But I dont' think it was ripped off, I guess it was just subconscious or something like that.

Maybe the best song ever released by a solo Beatle. I really love that song. Who cares if it's like the other one? Plus, as FPSHOT said, George owns both now. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/tongue.gif

Thanks for the input guys.
FPSHOT, I just knew you would answer. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif
I think of the song just like you darkhorse, as "mystic, religious, solemn". That perfectly describes it.
Wow, I didn't know that the song was like a 70's anthem. Interesting...
And, it's great that George has ownership of both songs!! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

You know, when many people recall the 70's, "My Sweet Lord" comes to their minds, even here in Chile, when music in Spanish gets more success... That's what I meant with "anthem": a song that's symbol of an era. Together with "We Are The Champions", "Hotel California", "Stairway To Heaven" and some others, they're a smybol of that part of the history of music. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/musicnotes.gif

Don't worry darkhorse, I know what you meant. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif
And it wasn't just you who said it was like a symbol 70's era song...the others implied it as well.
I meant before that I didn't know what an impact it had. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif Which is very interesting...
