'Sail Away Raymond' was written on an open-tuned guitar when I was with Donovan who was living in Ireland at the time. I wrote it like an old Irish folk song a bit like country music, and the Raymond who was on my mind at the time was a lawyer who Allen Klein had employed to act on behalf of Ringo, John, me & Apple when Paul was suing us... Sail Away Raymond, Sail Away.
It was a fun session and a good track with most of The Band, David Bromberg, Klaus (Voorman), Ringo & me. It appeared on Ringo's "Ringo" album.

If you would play this song less fast, like in the old days you could do with a single, don't play it on 45tpm but on 33 like an LP, don't you hear bits of Mull Of Kintyre.
George, go and sue the guy !!!!!

George in I Me Mine; 'I met Kissinger and Ford. Ford was very friendly, Kissinger looked like an Arab, talked like a German and was tanned all over, like Clark Gable, he was a bit like Charlie Chaplin, like a Rutle.

OK... why are you playing "Sunshine Life For Me" at a slower speed? Hidden messages?
Like "I'm buried in the Mull of Kintyre"...?
You're scaring me FPSHOT!

OK, in that case,
play Mull of Kintyre faster, or just leave it.

I used to do that all the time (play 45's at 33 RPM and vice-versa)..just for the fun of it. On "I really love you" (Gone Troppo), if you played it faster it sounded like the footsteps were running instead of marching and I'd picture George running arround in the studio while he was singing it.

Please keep in mind that I was about 12 years old at the time...

Oh we will... Both "Sail Away Raymond" and "Mull Of Kintyre" are great songs, in my opinion...

Yes it did...

And songs like "My sweet lord" & "Give me love" were quite cool when played at 33rpm instead of 45rpm...until the vocals kicked in, then George sounded more like Roy Orbison...

Did that have something to do with bananas or coffee or something else?

and again and has anyone ever tried the Mull Of K. resemblance?
The discussion so far sometimes looks like an 'after mushrooms' one, but it started as a serious one, also my remark about the resemblance.

It may be nice to have this story back again.
Donovan is a well know artist, however it may not be know to many how is has been a part in The Beatles.
He taught John to play a different way of guitar play which was shown directly in songs like Julia.
He did some things with Paul I believe.
And with George he seemed to have this silent bond, being maybe a sort of UK Dylan, he did get in touch with George which was very much in Hurdy Gurdy Man - I hope you all know this great Live recording where he performed this verse which George wrote for him and also shows by the origin of this cool song which appeared on one of the best ever solo Beatles albums...well "solo" graemlins/thinker.gif graemlins/wink1.gif
