This songs actually dates from 1967.

It is related to taking LSD and Paul's experience with the press.

George and John had been on LSD for about 2 years before it was pubicised. After having that experience they wanted the others to know because suddenly there seemed to be a big space between G/J and P/R .....Ringo tried some, Paul did not till about 2 years later and then somehow it came out in the press.

So the press came to Paul and asked if it was true that he took it. Paul replied saying it was their responsibility as press, passing it on to the public. The press asked again, he confirmed and it was passed on.
Many said to Paul he should have said No.

That brought the start

it's easier to kill a fly
than it is to turn it loose
it's easier to see the books upon the shelf
than to see yourself

It was one if the tunes George forgot but in 1976 he found it, completed the lyrics to the bridge and the other verses and recorded it.

Yeah, that's what I thought as well, however the basic lies in what Hari says himself.

According to the story, this is how it started,maybe when he wrote the rest in 1976, the Beatles reference was finally added. Cause if you read the full lyrics, that does seem to become clear.

Apart from this one, "Not Guilty", "Circles" and those on "ATMP", do any other George songs date back to the Beatle years ?

This is such an excellent song with profound lyrics.

I am delighted you started a thread about it because back in February I used this song in telling somebody something that was not easy to tell. The bottom line is, somebody I know was engaging in a routine pattern of behavior that was having an adverse effect on others and was certainly not in their own best interests. I quoted this song and tried to break what I had to tell that person as gently as possible. "You don't hate George Harrison and what he said, so I think the lyrics from See Yourself are so a propos." I quoted the same part FPSHOT quoted on May 27, 2001 because the person in question did not appear to be aware that what they were doing was counterproductive and not in their best interest. (Other people were tired of this person's repeat behavior, but nobody at that time made any direct statements.) Things had reached a point where it was in everybody's interest to let that person know. The interesting thing is, the person isn't even a Beatles' fan, but the wisdom George expressed in this song really registered when nothing else did.

The problem appeared to be over - after telling (I Want to Tell You) the person how their behavior was adversely affecting others, that behavior to date has not recurred. George Harrison has once again supplied me with words.

IMO that talent surpassed anything Lennon/ McCartney could have done. He really got to the heart of the manner. Not bad for a little scouse kid, whose teachers didn't hold any future for him. I wonder if they are graemlins/spank.gif themselves. They must feel like the graemlins/dunce1.gif graemlins/dunce2.gif that they expected George to be.

On another thread in this forum, I got in trouble in an English class when I said George Harrison was my favorite poet. Had I known at the time, I would have appeased the dictator...er, English teacher in question with a nice little lie about one of the poets on the syllabus.
