Trust you know Legs Larry Smith is from the Bonzo Dog Do Da Band.

Legs came to George's house as a friend of Terry Doran. He dresses crazily and says very funny things, completely over-the-top. He would say 'Hello Sausage' and 'everything is dinky doo'.
George was sitting around playing three-finger piano and decided to write a song about him.

It starts

Everything is dinky doo
everything that you do
you the King of lah di da
pretty very out far

Legs sings the bridges on the record. It is a bit off the wall both musically and lyrically, a piece of personal indulgance. George says; like some of my other songs about things nobody else knows about, except maybe a few. So many songs would not hav come about otherwise.

------------------
George in I Me Mine; 'I met Kissinger and Ford. Ford was very friendly, Kissinger looked like an Arab, talked like a German and was tanned all over, like Clark Gable, he was a bit like Charlie Chaplin, like a Rutle.

304 last paragraph, but you know I hope that the songs described in the book are listed on alphabetic order at the back of the book, on my page 383 and further.

My book says 'except maybe two people.'

You know FPSHOT, I have read this book twice and browsed it many times and it takes till now for you to bring that to my notice.

This has a very simple eplanation from my side.

To avoid problems regarding Copyright etc. I do not just copy the exact words as in the book.

So, I wrote 'a few' in stead of 'two'.

Yes, well I know FPSHOT, George is very sensitive about these matters. I'm no expert on Dutch or international laws but in my little 'bananna republic' we are allowed to copy a percentage (forget how much - I think maybe 10%) for 'purposes of study' - & THAT'S WHAT I'M DOIN'. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/read.gif

Thanks, FPSHOT! images/icons/smile.gif

Too bad Legs' official website is not available anymore (at least I cannot access it)...legsiscool.net graemlins/laugh5.gif

Here is a little history of the Bonzo Dog Band which Legs was a part of...

http://bridge.anglia.ac.uk/~systimk/music/Bonzos/history.html

In it they talk about, among other things, his famous Springtime for Hitler from one of George's very favorite movies, the Producers by Mel Brooks. Once that song starts going in your head, it's impossible to shake...so then you can just walking around laughing all day... images/icons/smile.gif

Legs is great~~ and our very own Legs is even better! images/icons/smile.gif

I didn't know Legs was involved with the "Producers" film, I enjoyed that movie but didn't noticed Larry's name. Thanks for the link Hari!

It may be nice to get the story behind this cheerful song back up again.

I wonder if Larry Smith was at the CFG...

Here are the lyrics, too

Lyrics:
(I'm not cheating)

Oooh, oooh
Everything is Dinky Doo
Everything you do
You, the king of La-Di-Da
Pretty very out far
Never oversits, he understands
Like the back of the hand
He should sing in a band, oh yeah

Oooh, oooh
People think he's Loopey Loo
And when they look at his shoes
He's a rocking sausage roll
He gets it in the goal
Healthy little 'brown affair'
And when he washes his hair
He'll get a round or a square
Get them singing

Oooh, oooh
Everyone from Oxford town
Way down to the Rio Grande

Knows his harbour quays
His skin tight hands, without seggs
His name is Legs

[talking]

Oooh, oooh
Coolies sweating in Hong Kong
Run along to the Mardi Grass

Risking asian flu to meet the man
Who lays the eggs
His name is Legs

He's a cure for whooping cough
And if the going gets rough
Get lined up, come Sikh, come Czar
No matter who you are
We could get along and slide a rule
And if you don't play fools
While Larry plays pool
You'll hear him singing

Oooh, oooh
[talking]
Oooh, oooh
