How can we not start with Dark Horse;
Dark Horse is the common story
- Mr Penguin's poking Mrs Johnson from the supermarket
- Oh really? Who'd have thought that - he's a bit of a dark horse, isn't he.
George didn't know till later the other meaning of a dark horse - the one that wins that nobody has put money on. A bit thick really.
George sais that the pity of this recording is that he hadn't finished the record when he had to go to the US to rehearse with the band for the 1974 tour.
So he tought the band the tune and they recorded it 'live' and by that time he had the hoarse voice so it was a shouting version of it, while the other remains unfinished.
This is the story.
'the other' is on bootlegs. I have it on Through all those years and Pirate songs.

George in I Me Mine; 'I met Kissinger and Ford. Ford was very friendly, Kissinger looked like an Arab, talked like a German and was tanned all over, like Clark Gable, he was a bit like Charlie Chaplin, like a Rutle.

Alright... I had to bring this topic back. To any of you who has the book, I've found some interesting things re-reading the lyrics. Aren't they directed to Patti in anyway? Most of the "Dark Horse" album is ("So Sad", "Bye Bye Love"...), and when you read things like this:
"I thought that you knew it all along
But then you started getting me not right
Seems as if you heard a little late
I warned you when we both was at the starting gate..."
I don't know, maybe it's me but I think this is directed to Patti. It can be directed to "everybody" also, so please tell me about it. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

George could have written it about Patti, but unless he actually says so, who knows.

Yeah, the "both" part still makes me wonder. He was capable of writing songs to different subjects (God/woman, woman/God), so I can actually see a mixed receptor to the message of the song. Part of it is about George himself and his relationship with the world per se, but another part is indeed about his main problem at the time... a woman called Patti.
Just my two cents.

Don't really thing it's about Patty. Always thought it was more about the media and press. In fact I recently have bought an interview cd where he talks about Dark horse, have a relisten to that part and post his exact words.
