When, during the Let it Be sessions, George walked away and in fact left the group, do you think he was right to do so.

I guess you all know the background and that the other three went over to George and pursuaded him to come back.

My opinion is, that he was right. He had the feeling that he was growing in experience and quality, but did not get enough recording time and/or attention.
At the same time I guess that Paul was trying to get the grip on the band and John was rather busy with Yoko and in a 'who-cares' mood.

Opinions please.

Yes, I believe George was in the right then, just as Ringo was when he left a few months earlier. The Beatles were a team of equal individuals, not Paul and the Beatles or whatever. I do think it's good that George came back, though.

I basically think the same as Mindgames. George deserved a little more respect by his latest compositions of the time, and he didn't want to be on a band where Paul was trying to control everything and where John was simply not there, but flying in another temporal dimension with Yacko. Yoko. Whatever. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

I agree that George did the right thing with leaving the group, if only for a short while. The same could be said for Ringo. George was definitely not appreciated for his contributions as John and Paul were.

I can understand how George felt, and without any one of the four there would have been no Beatles, but let's face it, John and Paul deserved the most attention.

And I always liked George. That is an objective opinion.

I think George was right to be annoyed and leave the band for a while. I think that it's too bad that it was on film, as it does make Paul look bad, even if he really thought he was doing the right thing. Other disagreements (and I'm sure that there were many) were never captured on film.

I agree with all the above comments. It was good in a way that George left when he did, because it made all the others stop and think about what was happening... "hey, just what exactlyare we doing here?" kinda thing. And they finally came to their senses and went and brought him back... and more wonderful music was the end result.

Abbey Road can attest to that. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Dude, if I had to put up with Paul's ego, I'd leave too. So yeah, George did the right thing.

Yes John had it's arguments with George also, the problem was not just with paul. But I agree with all above, George was right to leave, when there's only a tense atmopshere and nothing good comes out of it.
I thought that George said that he'd only come back to finish the Get Back project, but then they went on and did "Abbey Road".

It's not for me to judge what George did. Only he knows the pressures he was under, and from everyone's version of the story, I would say they were quite considerable. I'm sure we've all been in similiar situations where you're not feeling at your strongest and just can't cope, and react in some way.
I do think however, when you start a project you finish it and obviously so does he, because he went back.
The biggest problem I see in this story is that, according to Paul, John almost immediately said, "Let's get Eric in". Paul says that perhaps he was half joking.
If George owed the band something (which I think he did) then the band owed George something - a few days to cool down and an approach to come back (which is exactly what happened).
