Suppose George would consider doing another 'new' version on this album, which seems to be re-released as well, like he did with MSL 2000, which song would you prefer to have one.

This is the track list

Give Me Love(Give Me Peace On Earth)
Sue Me, Sue You Blues
The Light That Has Lighted The World
Don't Let Me Wait Too Long
Who Can See It
Living In The Material World
The Lord Loves The One(That Loves The Lord)
Be Here Now
Try Someone Buy Some
The Day The World Gets 'Round
That's Is All

I'd keep every track on it. Why change a masterpiece. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif

Maybe my question is not clear.

If George would add e.g. a 2001 version of one of the songs like he did with My Sweet Lord, which would you want it to be.

I think the title song would be an option and he could also update the lyrics of it.

VERY good question FPSHOT !
http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup.gif

My favorite song on that one is "Be here now" but I think "Living in the Material world" would be my choice. I can easily see George add a verse or two (or three...) on that one to make it even more "actual".

Yes, Be here now must sound nice as an accoustic with some slide.

This week, the Beatles greatest hits album, "1", is at number twenty-four on the USA album charts. "Wingspan: Hits and History" by Paul McCartney is at number two.

Actually, I just downloaded Be Here Now from Living in the Alternate world.

It is a lovely alternative version.

It is only guitar, one voice, tabla and piano. Difference is therefore the additional vocals, second guitar and some overdubbed tabla and keyboards.

Yes I agree with an updated "Living in the material world".Althoug my experience with these so called new versions is that they are always not as good as the originals, but nevertheless interesting to hear.

"Living in the alternate word" or the "Shanghai Surprise in the Material world" re-release has nice acoustic demos of the songs.

Aah FPSHOT you've become an paperback writer now, haven't noticed yet, I knew there was a list somewhere where you could see how many times someoned needed to post to become and day tripper or something.

This is a great, sad album. Maybe my favorite sad album ever. Although "Living In The Material World" can be a little "happy" and everything, the overall mood for it is quite sad and dark. But I love that.

I'd love to hear a remastered version of it, with four or five bonus tracks: "Bangla Desh", "Deep Blue" (two sides of a 1971 single... that way George wouldn't need to re-release "The Best Of George Harrison) and, of course, the laughing and non-laughing version of "Miss O'Dell" and, if he really needs to re-record a song for it, my choice would be "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)" (once again, the single)

I feel pretty happy about "commenting" albums and not only doing the survivors of them. So I'm living this topic, as well as the "George Harrison" one opened for anyone concerned to comment the music inside the albums... It'b great to share our feelings about them...

I already gave my overall opinion about LITMW, so this is a quick track-by-track review... Anyone interested, I repeat, can post their own:

Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth): It's a classic and you can't deny it. Its simple message is supported by a beautiful harmony and "happy" arrangements, to contrast with George's sad and painful vocal. Great opener.
Sue Me, Sue You Blues: The best song IMHO about the breakup of The Beatles, maybe to compete with "Too Many People" and "Run Of The Mill". So the lyrics are great, and the piano's awesome. As a musical piece, the song is also amazing.
The Light That Has Lighted The World: Surely this song means a lot to George, because he talks a lot about himself here. The listening process became even more emotional to me when all those rumours about George's health were flying around. Nonetheless, a spiritual call to God, or a way that George had to see how the world's going nowhere without "the light that has lighted" it.
Don't Let Me Wait Too Long: You know what? I love this one. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/grin.gif It relaxes the mood, as it's a quite happy-poppy melody. Some times you need to be "happy", even though you're experiencing spiritual crisis or you're living through hard times. Ask Paul about it. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif This song, in fact, reminds one a lot of Paul's late albums (please take that in the right way).
Who Can See It: Dramatic, intense, powerful. It can make you cry easily. *sigh*
Living In The Material World: Great satire, a highlight of the album. The musical accompainment is wonderful, as well as the string work in the whole album. Yeah, this is also light-weighted, but, unlike "Don't Let Me Wait Too Long", this also lets one see George's pain in some way.
The Lord Loves The One (That Loves The Lord): Probably my least favorite because of the "you must do this" tone of the lyrics. A good song anyway.
Be Here Now: Another highlight. Without saying too much, George is, yet again (like he did on "Within You Without You"), saying it all, and giving us some of the keys of deep philosophy and spirituality. Simple but complex, impossible but possible... Only George can do that.
Try Someone, Buy Some: Recorded way back in 1971, this song still has some ATMP tastes... Good one.
The Day The World Gets 'Round: I like this one very much too, although I'm not quite sure why. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/rolleyes.gif
That Is All: My second favorite. What a way of finishing the album! George never wrote such a great closer. The overall tone of the album is resumed here in about four minutes of another painful song, this time accompanied with George's extremely well sung vocal. All that you can say is... look at yourself and try not to cry.

That would be all.

"Sue Me, Sue You Blues"

"Who Can See It"

For my tastes, though these songs
are still just great, I feel that I wouldn't
mind hearing "up to date" version(s) of
"Sue Me, Sue You Blues" or "Who Can See It".
I'd love to hear acoustic versions of the
two if anyone knows if they're out there
for example, in that hearing the lead vocal
might be interesting to compare to the originals on these tunes... (i.e.perhaps a little rawer vocals might be interesting to hear). Thanks all!

I feel that "Living in the material World" whether updated or not,
is truly a masterpiece(!)... I was just
hearing it recently and even right down to
the ending, I feel like George almost summed
up the era of the early '70's somehow in
this tune... anyone else out there agree?
(Oh, yes-- and I feel like so much of the
other B. tunes, this one even though being a
"solo effort", has that foreshadowing effect
in it too... i.e. Madonna-http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

If you mean the title song referring to the 70's, well I believe it's the sixties

John and Paul
Ritchie
Spiritual
Memories
Frustrated
Senses never gratified

Some of the other songs indeed refer to the world's status and business.

Leaders of nations (The lord loves ...)

The past again

Way back in time..
I tried some..
I saw you ...

Is this what you meant?

Well for me, yes the song in
general is lyrically referring to the 60's
ala some of the things you mentioned, but in
a "musical way", I feel that it almost sums
up the era of the early '70's--(of course
it was produced in '73 too). And yes,to
the latter basically w/a little added
spirituality to boot(!)..
