I guess I can put this here.

This is a link to a large interview with Jeff where he speaks about the wilburys, about George and about the new ELO album.

There is also an Audio Sample for hearing part of one of the songs.
http://www.mwe3.com/

Here is another one with also a song to be listened to.

I write on a Harrison board from time to time so had interesting posts there with some who are now here, like Old Moon, ABCKO and Roger. There are also some others there who I would prefer to stay away because their way of writing, aggressive etc.

Thank-you ABCKO. I've missed you a bit lately. Nice to see you back.
FPSHOT, I know how Ringo feels. That man brings tears all of the time.
With reference to 'someplace else', I have nothing against discussing a subject in depth and thoroughly airing different opinions. Actually I enjoy it heaps. But if it is a subject that I'm not interested in or don't understand - well, that is my time to keep quiet and allow others a bit of a turn.

If you go to the links as above you can hear bits of two songs, that is if you have a media player.

The two songs which one can hear are Melting in the sun, and Alright. These sound like the various rocking songs ELO had.

So, nothing from the Hari and Ringo contributions.

To go back to Jeff Lynne,

what do you think of the slide parts George did on Armchair Theatre
- Lift me up
- September song
- Stormy weather

These last two do relate a little to the 40s and 50s, same as George did with Hoagy Carmichael's songs, although Jeff does not get the same atmosphere.

I find the slide parts real George like, full of melody, but as a background line as he also did for e.g. Gary Wright

I've always liked the album (though probably 'cause George is on it) but all the same, 'Every Little Thing' gets me going.
Even though I read some critic said George and Jeff should have been 'shot' for doing those old ones ('Sept. Song & Stormy Weather') I think George's slide is extremely emotive. I would like to start a 'topic' about his slide guitar.

Just got my copy of "Zoom" and I'm not sure what to think...having listened to it only once so far.
http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thinker.gif

Not bad but not great either (maybe after listening to it a few more times...).
http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/churchill.gif

The two songs with Ringo are pretty good but maybe the songs just did not suit Ringo. His drumming is good but not as good as say "Power to the people" (from the "Steal this movie" soundtrack).
http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/confused.gif

The two songs with George are good as well. On "A long time gone", George does'nt have much to do (as FSHOT had pointed out earlier). But on "All she wanted" George's slide guitar is more "present" and is as good as it has ever been...
http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Actually my favorite song is a non-album track called "Love changes all" from the CD single "Alwright". A very good, simple & up-beat number. Nice slide guitar solo on that one...sounds like it could be by George (there are no performing credits for this song...).
http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/rocknroll.gif

I'm certainly not crazy about "Alwright" though. Not my first choice for a single...

I still think that it is not right that Jeff called this an "E.L.O." album even though he's the only member of the group to play on it.
http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/nono.gif

Yes I know that, to many people, Jeff "was" E.L.O. but I'm sure the album would have gone over as well as a "Jeff Lynne" album. Besides, imagine Sting releasing a "Police" album on his own...or Rick Ocasek doing the same for a "Cars" album..?

For this, Jeff deserves a http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/spank.gif

And so does Paul... http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/spank.gif
for calling his compilation album "Wingspan" even though many of the songs are from before & after (as much as 5 years after...) Wings...

Zoom gets a lot of airplay in the Netherlands. The album is ' album of the week' at the No. 1 national Radio station, meaning that each hour a song is played.

Yesterday I heared some and other than what ABCKO writes, I consider this to be a real ELO album. It does not sound - from what I have heared sofar - like the Jeff Lynne from Armchair Theatre or from his workings with the various Wilburys.

Alright - the single - to me sounds like the ELO from the 80s. I will trace the B sides.

My appolgies then. On all the promotions, adds & interviews I had seen for this album it always mentioned that Jeff would be the only E.L.O. member playing on the album.

Found this site listing all the E.L.O. line-up changes over the years...

(where i put an * , it should actually be that kind of horizontal "s" like they use in Spanish but I don't have one one my keyboard. Don't know what it is called either...).

If I read it right, Richard Tandy was'nt ever actually part of E.L.O. but joined ex. E.L.O.'s (including Jeff) with other bands & projects. But, FPSHOT, if you say that Tandy was indeed with E.L.O. than that is good enough for me and I apologize both to you and Jeff for my last post. Bur like I said, that's what was being said (no other E.L.O.'s on "Zoom") in all the reports I had seen so I plead "Not Guilty" because of mitigating circumstances...
