Yesterday on TV a lady ministre of our Dutch Parliament was interviewed about her private life.

One of her favorite albums is Abbey Road and one of her favorite artists is Paul Simon and they showed the Simon/Hari TV performance of Here Comes The Sun.

Well, now she has my sympathy.

More than likely, it was a tape of George's appearance on Saturday Night Live on Nov. 20, 1976. Paul Simon was the guest host that night and the two were taped two days prior singing these songs:
1. Here Comes The Sun
2. Homeward Bound
3. Bye Bye, Love
4. Don't Let Me Wait Too Long
5. Yesterday
6. Bridge Over Troubled Water
7. Rock Island Line
8. Ride Of The Valkyries
9. Here Comes The Sun

Hope this is what you were asking about.

As I recall the episode, it opens with George talking with SNL Producer Lorne Michael backstage. Lorne had made a joke offer the previous week about paying the Beatles something like $2000 to reunite on SNL (remember John was STILL alive in 1976)!

George shows up and Lorne is heard saying "I thought you'd understand that the offer was for all FOUR of you to come here..."

Paul Simon was the guest host and George the musical guest. There were two promotional films shown for "This Song" and "Crackerbox Palace" that Eric Idle had directed.

Then Paul S. & George took to the stools (Pre-Unplugged) and traded lines on "Homeward Bound" and "Here Comes The Sun".

I do not remember any other songs, nor have I ever heard the other ones listed above. Are they of as good of quality as the two that aired?

The actual amount was $3000. Lorne was willing to pay George 1/4th of it since he was the only Beatle to appear.

The other songs I listed were recorded on tape but not used on the show. If their quality is even close to the songs they did on the show, I'm sure they are worthy to find and have.

I have some songs of the show and the sound quality is good.

I have a book 'GH Yesterday & Today', not much in except picts, but there is a pic of that occasion. Paul looks the same as in the site FPSHOT sent us to, but George has on a T-shirt with what I think they call a fairisle knitted cardigan all colourful and a big collar. I mean I don't care what he wore - I only mention it because I always thought he looked rather cuddly.

Old Moon, You probably mean the picture on page 67, the page before the grand photo of George and his dad. That is from the same show. I believe the T shirt has the Dark Horse sign on it.

Yes, I think it was...it was around Thanksgiving time, if I remember correctly, so Paul S. did his monologue in a turkey suit. I saw it the night it aired...I was a real SNL fiend in those days!

Gotta try to find the other songs on Napster, methinks...thanks for the info, http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/cat.gif.

Old_Moon, you can use any "George" icon you wish to use. Nobody here has a claim to them. They are strictly there to choose from. The same holds true for all the Beatles and solo icons. I just recently changed mine, in fact it was yesterday. I'm using a different one each month.

I have an interview series called "George In The Studio" as it is called on WinMX etc., but it has a fragment on this Saturday Night Live show.

George is talking about performing Japan and remembering the lyrics of his own songs, then he goes;

"I don't know my own songs, I'm the worse, I did this show on SNL with Paul Simon, I couldn't see the idiot board, I had to read the words of this song of Paul's that we were doing, and the man forgot to turn the page over when it came to my verse, and I blew it, so they had to set up the shot again. For some reason it took em like an hour and a half to back everything up and to start the program again"

"and during that time the audience shouting all these requests and Paul was doing his whole repetoire and they were shouting at me like "Bangla Desh" and I'd say ooh sorry, I don't know that one, can't remember"
