Am I "...the only one down here..." who thinks that this George/Carl Perkins duet is very good ? George' guitar work & vocal harmonies make this one of my favorites ! As an added bonus most of the rest of the album (Carl Perkins & friends kind of album) is very good as well ! Contributions by John, Paul, Ringo, Paul Simon, Tom Petty. On "Give me back my job": Perkins, Petty, Bono, Willie Nelson & Johnny Cash share the vocals.
I highly recomend this album !

I don't know the album as such yet, but I do have some of the songs which George did with Carl and what I think of George's guitar work is that it is like in the old days, what George then seemed to like in respect of music, and the style he played on Beatles For Sale.
Must check out the album.

Oh my gosh, no... you are not alone ABCKO! It is an excellent song! Quite tender and beautiful. And very similar to a number he helped Ringo with on Ring's "Vertical Man" called "King of Broken Hearts" with that weeping slide throughout.

Hello you people - this is my first post here. ABCKO - 'Dist makes no Diff' is on my fav. list. Knowing George as we do - do you thing he might have had something to do with the writing? FPSHOT - did you say you don't have this album? Now you make me feel superior - you whose knowledge I bow to regularly.

Old Moon Shining, very good to see you here.
Yeas we did exchange some nice thoughts 'someplace else' where I wrote/write as Rob Henley.
It struck me too that this album is one I may have to get. Although I do have some songs of it which I was able to get at Napster.

Boy, Old Moon Shining, you started off with a double post. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/thumbsup.gif It takes most guys years (well, days) to achieve that!
Congratulations, and oh yeah, welcome! http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/wave.gif

This week, the Beatles' greatest hits album, "1", is at number twenty-three on the USA album charts.

Welcome, old_moon_shining, to the Crackerbox Palace and to the Beatlelinks Forum. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/wave.gif Keep on posting. I also love some of those songs George shared with Carl. Just as much as I love Carl's duet with Paul on "Get It". They could handle the music pretty well.

Thanks for the welcome you guys. Awfully sorry about the double post - technology beat me and all those little moons making faces at me - frightening stuff!
Yes Rob - I know who you are and I enjoy 'someplace else' and its simple format but a moderate and (if I may be so bold) rational voice is getting lost. I find it unnerving. I just want to learn and enjoy all aspect, inc. lyrics. Unreasonable expectations, I guess. LOL.

Even if technology beats you up, you should pick up an user image to identify yourself better. Just go to "Edit Profile" and choose an icon from the tons of them that are there. (Just don't pick up the "Dark Horse" LP cover, for obvious reasons)... There you can write where are you from in the world, just for us to know...

Hello Old Moon, nice to see that you've made here as well ! According to the credits on the album, Carl Perkins wrote "Distance..." by himself but I'm sure George put in his two cents, if nothing else, the guitar line.

FPSHOT, the album is "Carl Perkins and friends" (Umbrella recording, released in 1998). The songs I most recomend (don't know witch ones you've already gotten on Napster...):
- "One more shot" (Perkins/Tom Petty & the heartbreakers)
- "My old friend" (Perkins/Paul)
- "Rockabilly music" (Perkins/Paul Simon)
- "Distance makes no difference with love" (Perkins/George)
- "Give me back my job" (Perkins/Bono/Johnny Cash/Willie Nelson/Petty)
- "Don't stop the music" (Perkins)
- "Two old army pals" (Perkins/Cash)
If you want the rest of the titles, let me know...

I'm with you Dark Horse, "Get it" is pretty good + fun song (nice guitar by Carl). You'd also like "My old friend" (see prvious post), it was recorded at the same sessions but remained un-released for 17 years...
P.S.: Knowing what kind of guy George is, if he called himself Carl Harrison (in honnor of Perkins) for one of his early gigs with the Beatles (or Quarrymen ?), that says a lot about what George thinks of Perkins & his work.

I played "Distance makes no difference with love" again and indeed this is a wonderful song with good harmonies by George. I guess he did the accoustic guitar, which is in his style, like e.g. on Roy's album.
The slide solo's are so George.
ABCKO commented as follows about this song in an e-mail to me where he advised me to pick up this song again, and I use that, cause it is a good description ; A great Perkins-Harrison duet (ballad)with some of George's better guitar work ! And
considering what little (or no) singing George has done in the 1990's...(the song was recorded in 1996). George does a really nice bit (vocaly) towards the end
(high harmony), just beatiful stuff !
Well said.

Forget Edgar Davids, but have a look at the discussion about the song.
I just copied it to a new CD and whilst listening to it, the combination of Carl, George on backing vocals, and the perfect slide guitar from George, I think this is certainly high in the top 10 of George's best sessions with others.

I certainly agree with that. This is a precious song. And George appears as playing guitar, bass guitar & backing vocals. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif So it's really a good collaboration.

'Distance Makes No Difference With Love' would have been George's swansong as a recording artist if it was not for 'Horse To Water' and it really is superb - a wonderful ballad. I agree that George's harmonies and guitar work make this a "must-track-down" for any George fan. Check it out on audiogalaxy if you can't find the album.
