The Wilburys Are Great!
I love volume 1 but has anyone got volume 3? I was put off because lefty wilbury wasn't in it http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/frown.gif (poor roy)
Does anyone recomend it or want to comment on any of the wilburys stuff?

If you like Volume 1, you should get Volume 3; it's more of the same style. I love both (though I like 1 more than 3); they're such good driving music and mellow hanging out at home with a glass of wine music!

The ONLY drawback on Volume 3 is that George does NOT have as many lead vocal appearances on that album. Otherwise, good luck trying to find a copy. Isn't it out of print?

Oh yes it is. Believe me it is. Especially here. Totally out of print. Out of sale. Out of the people's minds... Out of everything. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

I would certainly get the #3.

I have it and indeed the number of George additions is less than on #1, sounds more influence from the duo Dylan/Petty.

Insight Out is really my favorite.

It is out of print, but fortunately for us it'll be re-released in remastered form (I hope) sometime in the years to come.

This week, the Beatles' greatest hits album, "1", is at number thirteen on the USA album charts.

Was that nice? Did he call South Dakota "The Sticks"? It is, though.

Here's one. Go to www.half.com (http://www.half.com) and you'll find some new and used copies there but you'll be paying full price or higher since it's out of print. There are lots of the lads' titles there under various price ranges.

I only have a few songs from volume 3, but have heard the whole album. Although George doesn't have a song of his own, I think he played more lead guitar on the songs. "Upside down" being a favourite because of the "Be carefull where you walking you may step.." bridge.
"Maxine" is a Wilbury 3 outtake written by George. I've read somewhere that George felt that "Maxine" sounded to familiar and he didn't want to go through the same expeience as with "My Sweet Lord". So just to be sure they didn't include the song on "Volume 3". It's on the Pirate songs bootleg, and on "the Mystic Maestro" bootleg, plus on a wilbury bootleg I forgoten the name of.

Indeed Maxine was the only Hari solo contribution to the sessions, but was rejected. I have it also on Through all those years.

Upside down (inside out) indeed has this George 'badge' which makes the song even more interesting.

Many songs of #3 are on Napster.

I wrote a short review of the Wilburys second album e.g. based on 'who wrote what';

In general it is probably known that they took much more time for this recording than #1. My opinion is that the more instruments on this record sometimes sound too much and too much overdubbed.

I like #1 more. Also 3 has much more Dylan and less Hari/Petty. Anyway,

She's my baby I think is Lynne originated, big influence here is Gary Moore's lead guitar and the percussion. Nice George bridge though.

Inside out, Dylan/Petty impo. Vocal overdubs def. Lynne/Hari influenced and again a good George bridge.

If you belonged to me - Dylan for sure, clean mandolins of our Spike

The devil's been busy - I think good teamwork here, real kitchen-table job. Sitar from Spike

7 Deadly sins - again Dylan influence and here I find his voice becoming worse (Dark Horse like) and even boring.

Poor House - Lynne/Petty, what I like most here is the slide guitars and the harmonies which are more like the first album.

Where were you last night - All again I guess, Lynne playing a basic electric guitar backing like he did on some Cloud 9 songs

Cool dry place - 15 in a dozen, sorry

New Blue Moon - Lynne/Hari, recognizable slide guitar

You took my breath away- Petty for sure. Lynne sound in production with the guitar and keyboard between the singings

Wilbury twist - good kitchen table work again.

Like to have your thoughts.

My dad likes the Traveling Wilburys and here are some lyrics I remember from an album of their's...
"And the walls came down...all the way to hell http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/devil3.gif ...never saw them when they standing...never saw them when they fell."
and some more lyrics that come to mind.....
"Tweeter and the Monkey Man http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/monkey.gif were hard up for cash...."
I'll have to find out where dad put that album...and listen to it with renewed interest. http://www.beatlelinks.net/ubb/smilies/rocknroll.gif
